Why run

Reasons to participate

FIGHT KIDS CANCER is a joint initiative created by KickCancer (Belgium), Imagine for Margo (France) and Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner (Luxembourg), with the aim of accelerating the most innovative treatments through European funding and collaboration in paediatric cancer research.

FIGHT KIDS CANCER foresees the launch of annual recurrent calls for projects.

In 2020, the first FIGHT KIDS CANCER call resulted in the selection of six innovative research projects by independent international experts. Through these projects, we hope to make a major breakthrough in the knowledge and treatment of the following diseases, the treatment of which does not yet lead to satisfactory cure results:

  • High-grade gliomas (brain tumours) - Two projects: a clinical trial and a translational project
  • Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML)
  • Rhabdoid tumours
  • Osteosarcomas
  • Neuroblastomas

The second call for projects is in progress and will lead to the selection of innovative projects worth around three million euros.

With 2022, FIAGOP will add its Italian contribution to this ambitious project.

In Belgium, France and Luxembourg, from 2021 in Italy and in the future also in other European countries, these projects are financed thanks to the organisation of our non-competitive solidarity races, which will be held on the same weekend in September. The more runners participate, and the greater their motivation to raise funds, the more we can invest in research.

The Italian edition of the race will be called IO CORRO PER LORO (I RUN FOR THEM): all the proceeds of the race will be donated to the Fight Kids Cancer Project because the organisation costs will be covered by the sponsors.

Take part in IO CORRO PER LORO 2022 by running, walking or donating to one of your participating friends; or, if you have a company, contribute to the organisation expenses by sponsoring the event!

If we run... we'll get there first!

Registration

You can run, jog, walk, roll or crawl over 3, 6 or 12km but above all, you feel like shooting kids’ cancer far way?

If you want to participate alone or in a team, you still need to create your own individual fundraising page to get started.

Here is the registration procedure:

  1. Click on a button I register
  2. Watch out! If you wish to join an existing team, look for its name with our search engine located at the top of the screen and click on “I register with this team”.
  3. Fill in your personal information, choose your track and select your t-shirt size.
  4. Create your personal fundraising page.
  5. Add a nice picture and a personal presentation text. The more you customise your page, the more your friends will want to support your effort!
  6. Choose a password for your personal account. It will allow you to manage and edit your page later.
  7. Register other participants or finalise your own registration and pay the 10€ fees.
  8. Once your fundraising page is paid for, it will be published.
  9. You will soon receive an email confirming the completion of your registration.
  10. You can start fundraising like a champ!

Here are some tips:

  • Choose a nice photo for your collection page. This will make it more personal and show your commitment against children's cancer!
  • On your collection page, explain why you wanted to participate in I RUN FOR THEM. Talk about your motivation to fund children's cancer research. Maybe you know someone who had cancer as a child, or maybe running is important to you simply because you think that children with cancer deserve better treatment. We will help you with a few sentences to start with, but your words will always have more impact. Later, if you have more ideas, you can always edit your text.
  • If your page is not active or there is no personal content, your friends will probably feel little commitment to support you and make a donation. For this reason, we recommend that you start by contacting your closest circle of friends and family first (by sending them a link to your donation page). Perhaps you could make your first donation yourself. Good to know: usually the amount of the first donation is a reference for the following ones.
  • As your collection page starts to fill up, start talking about I RUN FOR THEM around you, your other friends, extended family, colleagues, classmates... and get them to support you too. It is also a good time to share your page on social networks.
  • Are you planning to organise a dinner party at home (birthday, barbecue, drinks with friends, ...)? Invite your guests to make a donation on your I RUN FOR THEM page, instead of bringing flowers or gifts. This is a great opportunity to draw attention to your commitment and to increase your donation counter!
  • Starting a small fundraising activity can be very nice! You can organise a bake sale, make bracelets and sell the products made at school, to neighbours and family. Any initiative is good.

Remember that your registration will only be final once you have raised a minimum of 200 euros (100 euros for children and students under 25; there is no minimum amount to collect for children under 10). Only then will it be possible to reach the starting line on the 16 October 2022 in Rome.

Are you under 18? No problem! Just follow the procedure described above and we will send you an approval form to be completed by one of your parents, which you can print out and bring with you in September 2019. Children under 12 must remain under adult supervision at all times during the race.

What if I want to create a team?

Great idea! This allows you to join forces and raise as much as possible to finance the fight against children's cancer, but don't forget that each runner in the team is obliged to raise at least €200 (€100 for children and students under 25) to be able to participate in IO CORRO PER LORO in September 2022.

To create your team

  1. Create your page
  2. Click on the option "Create a team".
  3. Warning! If you want to join an existing team, search for its name using the search engine located at the top of the screen and click on "I register with this team".
  4. Add a nice photo and a text presenting your team
  5. Enter your personal details, choose the route and select your T-shirt size
  6. Create your personal fundraising page
  7. Add a nice picture and an introductory text. The more you personalise your page, the more your friends will want to support your effort!
  8. Choose a password for your personal account
  9. It will allow you to manage and edit your page later.
  10. Register other participants or finalise your registration by paying the 10€ fee.
  11. You will soon receive an e-mail confirming the completion of your registration.
  12. Now you can start fundraising like there's no tomorrow!

You wish to join a team?

You are not yet registered and wish to join your friends and family in the team they have created? It is as easy as searching for the name of the team in the search engine (at the top of the screen) and clicking on "I will register with this team". Then, fill in the registration form.

Already registered and want to join an existing team? First, log in to your account and search for the team name with the search engine (at the top of the screen) and click on "I register with this team".

Partecipare con la mia azienda

If your company would like to support your team by sponsoring registration costs and/or fundraising, please contact us at iocorroperloro@fiagop.it and we will be happy to set up your company team page. We will provide a confidential registration link that should only be shared within the company. This link will allow any potential runner to benefit from the advantages agreed with the company.

We would be very happy to contact your company to introduce it to FIAGOP and thus illustrate our activity against paediatric cancer, as well as discuss a possible sponsorship for the team's fundraising. To do this, please write to iocorroperloro@fiagop.it.

Fundraising

Each runner commits him/herself to raise at least €200 (€100 for minors and students under 25) through their fundraising page set up on the IO CORRO PER LORO website before midnight on 24 September 2022.

Don't worry, it's much easier than you think!

You can share your page and/or your team's page to solicit donations. If your supporter chooses to make a donation on your team page, the donation will automatically be divided equally between the team members who are registered at the time of the donation.

You will have until the last minute to collect the donations you need to confirm your registration. However, you will have to prove the additional donations (e.g. by showing your collection page) at the registration desk when you pick up your starting number. Otherwise, unfortunately, you will not be eligible to participate in the race. This is a harsh reality, but we cannot make exceptions in order not to lose sight of our concept of a solidarity race.

In all cases, 100% of the funds you raise will be used to finance research against childhood cancer.er.

The race will be held in Rome, in the Park of Villa Borghese. Access to the park is also guaranteed for the disabled.

There are several car parks in the area!

The start of the race is at 11:00. We recommend that you arrive at least an hour before the start so that you have enough time to collect your T-shirt and bib and enjoy the collective warm-up and entertainment.

Documents to bring with you

You must have the following with you when you collect your bibs:

  • Your identity card
  • The e-mail confirming your definitive registration, indicating that you have collected at least 200 € (either on paper or on your smartphone)

and, if you are under 18 years old

  • The authorisation signed by one of your parents authorising your participation in the race.
  • If you are a member of a team with at least 50 (30) people, there is no need to go to the bib collection tent. Your T-shirt and bib will already be in your team tent.

Where to change - Where to leave your bag

There will be changing rooms available but no showers.

There will be a tent near the bib drop-off point where you can safely store your bag with your personal belongings.

In case of hunger or thirst

Don't worry! Refreshment points will be distributed all along the route. In addition, several food trucks will be available in the IO CORRO PER LORO village selling their culinary specialities (also vegetarian and vegan).

Respect the environment

We are sure that you share the need to set a good example and show respect for the park that hosts us and, more generally, for the environment. We would therefore like to thank you in advance for your contribution to keeping the IO CORRO PER LORO village clean, by throwing your rubbish in the appropriate bins.

Note: We plan to give details of the practical information and programme about two months before the race.
